New medical device Heart Sense working on beating animal heart

Heart Sense is created for use in cardiac surgery. In certain moments during coronary artery bypass grafting #CABG electrocardiographic signal #ECG is lost or distorted. This occurs mostly due to loss of heart connection with mediastinal tissues and due to rotation of the heart. Thus we constructed device for temporal switch of ECG recording – from skin recording to heart surface recording.

Here is one of the studies we conducted on animal model. In that experiment we have rotated the heart and isolate it from surrounding tissues – in the same way it is done during off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting. The ECG signal was lost. Then Heart Sense probe was attached to the heart surface. Strong and clear ECG signal was immediately presented on the monitor.

In that way the problem of ECG monitoring during off-pump CABG is solved.

Therefore, in this aspect, it can be concluded that the problem of ECG monitoring during coronary artery bypass surgery has been solved.
